Welcome to WhyMedicine! My name is Rhea Misra, and I'd like to introduce you to my passion project. I recently graduated from the University of San Francisco with a B.S. in Biology, a minor in Psychology, and a concentration in Ecology. I have been fascinated with various fields of science and medicine for as long as I can remember, and I'm hoping to fulfill my dream of becoming a medical professional.

This medical project began back in high school when I decided to really discover if my interest in science would extend to pursuing a career in medicine. In order to learn more information about public health, and medicine, I sought out countless opportunities in clinical and research settings. Unfortunately, I realized there was a limited amount of resources available especially for a young high schooler with no experience. Although I was a little disappointed, I recognized that I needed to create my own opportunity if I was serious about my future. That's when WhyMedicine was born.

My plan of action has been to interview health care professionals specializing in different fields and areas to better understand the mental, emotional, as well as physical aspects of a career in medicine. While I was turned down relentlessly, I knew that all I needed was one person to take a chance on this project. Slowly but surely, I was able to interview, and eventually shadow an innumerable amount of physicians, practitioners, pharmacists, and professors. Each interview was new knowledge, new perspectives, and a newfound desire to know everything I possibly could about this field I dreamed of being a part of.

Although I have been learning an incredible amount about the different medical professions available and figuring out what may be right for me, I wanted to take it one step further. I've compiled a few experiences I've had over the years into an online journal for anyone who's been curious about the personal and professional lives of those in the medical field to appreciate.

Thank you for stopping by, I hope you enjoy reading the pieces about these phenomenal individuals as much as I enjoyed writing them!
